The Original Set (???)
Are they Official or not? -- Rumored to have been sold in the UK as the Offical Galoob dolls.

This set is the "same" as the Girl Power dolls?
But the differences are:

  • The doll boxes do not identify what doll is in each box, and does not have the individual bio(s) on the back.
  • The doll box does not have a UPC code
  • No Galoob logo, Galoob is only mentioned in the safety information
  • The doll molds seem different, and seem cheaply made, and have a sticker on the stomach that says "Made in China"
  • The make-up is not the same quality
  • The hair is of lesser quality
  • The fabrics are also lesser quality

These seem like a cheap Mexican version of the "Made in China" dolls. Some will even suggest these are bootleg dolls. Officially the were sold as the Galoob "Girl Power" dolls. When was contacted at the time, Galoob said they are official dolls.* My guess is Galoob had another factory produced these quickly to meet the Christmas rush, and quality was no a concern. Or these were produced for the Mexican market, but Galoob decided to sell them in the US and European markets instead.

Some people think these are prototypes, I would disagree. It could be that these dolls were an early run, and should have been rejected for the better quality dolls. But because Galoob was under such pressure to get the dolls, they might just shipped them any way.

The only thing we know for sure, is we don't know what, where, when, why or how.

* = Thanks GaySpicer for this info

The normal Galoob "Girl Power" dolls did have two different body types. The typical stiff arm version and some came with the "Concert Collection" bodies. So this would be a 3rd body type/factory producing these dolls.
